Call for Aleks Panek Award Nominations

Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the new award  for the best master’s and doctoral theses which benefit sustainable building will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, June 2016.  We would like to invite you to preliminary registration into the competition. Please let us know if you are interested in participation of your university/ faculty in this competition. If so, we ask you to send us a permission to use your logo at the official website. The International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE) will grant awards for the best master’s and doctoral theses which benefit sustainable building. The award is in honour of Professor Aleksander Dariusz Panek to celebrate his lifelong engagement in research and teaching on sustainability in building construction. The main purpose of the award is to establish and reinforce the topic of sustainability in architecture, civil engineering and environmental engineering education in universities.   The competition is open to university students in Master’s and Doctoral degree programs in architecture and civil and environmental engineering completing a thesis made during the three-year period July 2013 – June 2016. The competition is divided into the two categories: Master’s theses and Doctoral theses. Prize will be awarded to the best thesis from each category as follows:

  • 1st Place – 1000 € + free conference fee to WSBE conference (in current edition to SBE17 Hong-Kong)
  • 2nd Place – 500 €
  • 3rd Place – 250 €

Topics

A thesis should be focused on sustainability in built environments including (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • New buildings
  • Urban development
  • Innovative construction materials research
  • Renovation, modernizations and refurbishments of existing buildings and districts
  • Integration of new technologies to improve the sustainability of buildings
  • Industrial heritage regeneration
  • Other topic addressing sustainability issues in built environment
